About The Choose Joy Foundation - The Choose Joy Foundation was founded in 2015 after Founder Theresa Morris lost her daughter to a house fire. Choose Joy is in memory of Joyce Anne Morris. In Joy's memory we have tried to pull a few of her passions in life together; Helping others, unsigned unheard musicians, promoting, working with other non profits, our community and of course having a good time. Fire is devastating and life altering. We have built a team of volunteers, some being past clients, who are helping us turn our grief and loss into something positive by paying forward the love and help we have received. There are organizations that help for the first few days but we want to be there for when the shock wears off. Our mission is to assist families after fires for the first year with basic needs, with the maximum positive community support by working together with other non-profits, small businesses and local talent all striving to uplift each other and bring unity to our communities. With the support of community members, Choose Joy forms a strong and reliable network of local people. This allows us to advocate in the community and work directly with fire survivors and those who need a hand up. We host and co-host local events as well as providing volunteers at other events and festivals such as NASCAR, Firefly, Hoedown Throw down on the Canal, interactive murder mysteries, gift wrapping at Boscov's, and more, as a way to fundraise. We also run a TNT Fireworks tent every year to help raise funds and promote fire safety. Some of our events include "shopping and a show" where we combine a vendor event to spotlight our local small business owners with local musicians, murder mysteries and escape rooms to support our Acting community. Choose Joy also provides fire safety information at local festivals such as Lady Bug and Smyrna at night. And for fire safety training & education for Scouts and Daycares. Choose Joy is recognized by FEMA and provides free fire safety information at all of our events because fire is everyone's fight!  We encourage our sponsors to attend our functions as a way to meet the people they support!

Goals 

Our short-term goal is to be able to establish an official Choose Joy office in Kent county to be able to better assist families and the community. We would like the office to function as a free shop location for our families as well. We would also like to have a storage unit with temperature control to better store all of our donations as we receive furniture, clothes, food, Christmas gifts and more.

Within the next two years we would like to have a house in each county of Delaware to be able to temporarily house families who end up homeless due to having no insurance or no family members able to assist them. Being able to house them temporarily would allow them to not only function better but it would make getting them into a permanent house easier.

Our long term goal is to have a Choose Joy chapter in every single state. Our charity is unlike any other as we are the only fire charity that assists families the way we do. We stay by their sides for a year to ensure that they have everything that they need that we can provide as well as being with them mentally. Fires do not discriminate locations. Every state could use a fire charity as focused and driven as Choose Joy. Not only would it benefit struggling families but it would help boost communities everywhere.
